Partial Hospitalization Program, Decatur, GA

You may still be managing a career, caring for your family, and handling daily responsibilities while your symptoms become harder to manage. Substance use, behavioral addictions, or mental health concerns can reach a point where weekly therapy is no longer enough. You may need more structured support without needing to live at a treatment facility.

Our PHP is the most structured level of care within our addiction treatment center in Decatur. You receive 4 to 6 hours of structured treatment each weekday and return home or to supportive housing afterward. PHP can address substance use, behavioral addictions, and co-occurring mental health conditions within an individualized treatment plan.

A clinical assessment determines whether PHP provides the right level of support for your needs. Whether you are starting treatment or continuing after detox or residential care, we recommend care based on your current clinical needs. Your treatment can then adjust as those needs change.

A Clinical Assessment Determines Whether PHP Is the Right Level of Care

PHP is not the right fit for everyone, so we use a clinical assessment to determine the appropriate level of care. We evaluate your symptoms, treatment history, withdrawal risk, physical and mental health, safety, home environment, and daily responsibilities.

You may enter PHP as your first structured level of treatment or after detox or residential care. We also consider how substance use, behavioral addiction, or mental health symptoms affect your work, relationships, and ability to function safely.

If you need medical detox or 24-hour supervision, PHP may not be appropriate yet. After stabilization, we reassess your clinical needs to determine what level of support should come next.

Partial Hospitalization Provides Full-Day Structure Without an Overnight Stay

Our PHP provides 4 to 6 hours of structured treatment each weekday, Monday through Friday. You receive a level of clinical care comparable to residential treatment while returning home or to supportive housing afterward. This provides intensive daytime support without requiring an overnight stay.

Returning home lets you apply coping skills and new routines in your daily environment while staying connected to family and support. You can bring challenges from outside treatment into scheduled programming and continue working on them with your care team. We also provide 24/7 counseling support when you need help outside scheduled treatment hours.

PHP requires a significant weekday time commitment, which may affect your work or school schedule. We consider these responsibilities when planning care, but your clinical needs determine whether PHP provides the right level of support.

A Typical Day in PHP Combines Therapy, Clinical Support, and Skill Development

Your PHP schedule is based on your treatment plan, but each week combines several forms of clinical support. You can expect daily group counseling, weekly individual psychotherapy, weekly medication management, and skill-development classes. CBT and DBT may also help you address the thoughts, behaviors, and emotional patterns connected to your treatment needs.

Daily mindfulness practices, including meditation and yoga, can help improve focus and reduce anxiety. Your treatment plan may also include nutrition counseling, recreational therapy, neurofeedback, or trauma-informed care when clinically appropriate.

The mix of services depends on your symptoms, treatment goals, and clinical needs. This allows your PHP care to address the areas most relevant to your substance use, behavioral addiction, or mental health concerns.

PHP Can Address Substance Use, Behavioral Addictions, and Mental Health Conditions

Substance use, behavioral addictions, and mental health conditions can occur together, and treating one concern may leave others unaddressed. Our PHP can address these needs within an individualized treatment plan. This allows care to reflect the different factors contributing to your symptoms and behavior.

We treat substance use involving alcohol, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opioids, fentanyl, methamphetamine, and kratom. Behavioral addiction treatment may address gambling, sex, or video game addiction. Co-occurring concerns may include anxiety, depression, PTSD, trauma, or other mental health conditions.

Your treatment plan reflects how these conditions affect your health, relationships, work, and daily functioning. When multiple conditions are present, clinical goals can address how they interact rather than treating each concern in isolation.

Family Therapy Can Strengthen Support Outside PHP

Substance use, behavioral addictions, and mental health concerns can affect spouses, partners, and other people close to you. With your consent, family therapy can help loved ones understand what you are working through and how to support your treatment. Sessions may address communication, trust, boundaries, and unhealthy patterns within the family.

Because you return home after PHP each day, family members may see you apply new coping skills and routines. Family therapy can help loved ones respond to challenges, set healthier boundaries, and support the changes you are making in treatment. It can also provide education about addiction and healthier ways to support progress at home.

Family involvement is based on your treatment needs, consent, and appropriate privacy boundaries. When clinically appropriate, we incorporate family therapy into your treatment plan to support your individual goals and healthier family relationships.

Your Level of Care Can Change as Your Clinical Needs Change

PHP is one level within a continuum of care, not a fixed step on a set path. You may begin treatment in PHP or enter after detox or residential care. We review your symptoms, safety, functioning, and progress to determine whether your current level of support still meets your needs.

As you become more stable and need less structure, you may move from PHP to an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or an outpatient program. If your symptoms or safety needs increase, we can reassess whether you need more intensive care. These decisions are based on your clinical needs and progress rather than a predetermined treatment sequence.

After structured treatment, our aftercare program can provide continued relapse-prevention support, skill-building, and peer connection. This continued support can help you apply what you learned in treatment to your work, relationships, and daily life.

Common Questions About Partial Hospitalization Programs in Decatur, GA

Do I need to complete detox before starting PHP?

Not always. If your assessment shows you can participate safely in daytime treatment, you may begin PHP directly. If you are at significant risk for withdrawal, we may recommend medical detox before PHP.

How long will I be in PHP?

Most people participate in PHP for several weeks, but the exact length depends on your progress and clinical needs. Your care team reviews your progress and recommends a lower level of care when you are ready.

Can I keep working while I am in PHP?

Working full-time during PHP may be difficult because treatment runs 4 to 6 hours each weekday. If you later step down to IOP, evening scheduling may make treatment easier to manage around your career and other responsibilities.

Can I continue taking my current medications during PHP?

Your current medications are reviewed as part of treatment planning and medication management. Your clinical team considers effectiveness, safety, interactions, and your treatment needs before recommending any medication changes.

Is PHP private, and will my employer know I am in treatment?

Yes, your treatment information is confidential and protected by privacy laws. RestAura does not share information about your care without your written consent, except when disclosure is required by law.
